Over 20 states have laws that treat electrically-assisted bicycles as mopeds and have restricted the ability of retailers and bicyclists to use modern e-bikes. Modern e-bikes provide the potential for increased bicycle use, by making bicycling easier in many situations. This session will explore industry-led advocacy efforts to create a 3 class system that allows states to regulate e-bikes in a way that enables their deployment into the marketplace.
